THE NEW MPL BILL
THE MPL bill which the government-appointed project committee consisting of eight Muslim members, had prepared and which the Muslim community has hitherto opposed and rejected, has now even been discarded by the government. Besides the MPL bill being Islamically corrupt and kufr, it is constitutionally unsound, atrocious and downright stupid.
Realizing that it would be ludicrous to present such a constitutionally unsound instrument as the MPL bill to parliament, which would undoubtedly draw hilarious mockery from the other political parties, the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development has drafted an entirely ‘new’ MPL bill called the Muslim Marriages Bill (MMB), which according to the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development will be the bill for submission to the Minister.
Referring to the new bill, the Department of Justice & Constitutional Development states the following in an Internal Memo dated 29 January 2009:
“The CGE (Commission of Gender Equality) proposes an alternate solution to deal with the recognition of Muslim marriages without codifying precepts of Muslim law into our current civil law. Their Bill suggests the mere recognition of religious marriages. This Bill was drafted by the CGE, and according to them, submitted to the Minister of Home Affairs. It is understood that this is a Bill that is intended for promotion by the Department of Home Affairs. The Department is in the process of preparing the draft Bill for submission to the Minister. This process entails considering all the issues relevant to providing the Minister with enough information and arguments put forth in promulgating the legislation.”
We have been informed by the Minister that the new draft bill will soon be made available to the public for comment.
It appears that the MPL bill which has created so much controversy in the Muslim community has been finally relegated to the trash can.
